15 luglio How Did the Industrial Revolution Get it so Wrong?Today we went for a short road trip... 45 minutes away to Pubnico. Pubnico is a small fishing village along the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It is also the home of Nova Scotia's largest windfarm.
This site, the Pubnico Point Windfarm, is home to 17 Vesta windmills - the windmill towers alone, not including the blades, stand approximately 265 feet high! The windfarm is a joint venture between the Atlantic Wind Power Corporation, the Nova Scotia Government, Canadian Government and other stakeholders. These 17 windmills are capable of producing enough energy to power 13,000 average Canadian homes anually with zero emissions!
It's such a simple concept... why couldn't the leaders of industry who shaped the industrial revolution have seen the benefits of this simple technology? Instead we rely on toxic coal & foreign oil to power the machinery of capitalism! Well heinsight is 20/20 i guess... anyway we took some pictures, enjoy!
Windmills - the pictures don't nearly do the things justice... picture #005 comes close... look on the ground! 14 luglio The Noble LieHere's a good documentary on the events of 9/11:
Here's a good one on global terror:
...before any of you low foreheads south of the border decide to make a smart ass remark... watch the damn things first! 12 luglio 10,000 Days in the fire is long enough...I am a huge Tool fan. In my eyes all other contemporary bands pale in comparison. So I thought I would join the pack & weigh in on the new album 10,000 Days.
I bought the CD when it was released on May 2, and I can honestly say that when I reach for a Tool CD to play in my car stereo these days; I am more apt to pick up Lateralus, or more occasionally, AEnema.
The new album has some good tunes. I find my self tapping out & quietly singing Rosetta Stoned & Right in Two… but that’s about it! Wings for Marie/10,000 Days is a masterful compilation, but I it’s about 15 minutes of the same riff!
My main issue with the new album is this… there’s NO variety! How so you might ask? Well let me put it in perspective for you. Out of an 11 track album, you’ve only got about 6 songs; tracks 1, 2, 3 & 4 (two tracks that combine into one song), 5, 7 & 8 (two tracks that combine into one song), and track 10! Tracks 6 & 11 amount to nothing more than noise & track 9 puts me to sleep!
Compare that with Lateralus - in my opinion this is when they were at their prime - where no matter where you skip in this 13 track opus, to you are treated to a musical masterpiece. With the possible exceptions of Mantra & Faaip De Oiad which are pretty much noise, but they are interesting noise!
Now I have read the geek sites where people have claimed to have taken the album & laid certain tracks on top of one another to make “new ones”, but you still end up with the same songs just overlapped!
Lateralus took about a year to grow on me because it was so different than AEnima… perhaps that is what is happening here but I doubt it! The fact still remains that compared to their other albums, except for their debut, Opiate, there is about half the standard song selection that I have become accustomed to!
In closing I would like to say that the songs on the new album are very well done & insightful… I just hope that they are planning to release a second to disk in accompaniment in the very near future! Plus, the songs on this album don’t have NEARLY the staying power that the songs on the previous albums did. I can listen to any of their older songs in their entirety & enjoy them the whole way through. On this album it seems I find my self just waiting for the songs to end! "The Bigger the Lie, the More the People will Believe it" - Adolf HitlerGlobal Neocon When you read or listen to a neocon, you must come to the conclusion that they are utterly hopeless, and infantile. Like a good liberal, emotional hyperbole is mainly what they use for intellectual debate, and they tend to back up their delusional arguments with historical revisionism. I have always said that neoconservatives are nothing more than self-hating liberals with a belligerent complex in megalomania. That is why they left the Democratic Party in the sixties, the pot-smoking hippies in the Democratic Party were much too much wimpy and docile for the neocons. Neoconservatives like Anne Coulter unremittingly write about the "godless liberals," only to reveal to the rest of us how godless the neocons really are. Coulter talks and acts like the typical liberal, playing the big political game in sensationalism all the way to the bank. Hypocrisy is her true asset. On a national level, neoconservatives, as a matter of ideology and strategy look for enemies to kill in the field of foreign policy, especially when there is no legitimate strategic interest for the United States to protect. The neocons are neoliberal-globalists that want to strategically and economically dominate the globe; they create confrontations, create an atmosphere of fear at home by manipulating the media, and insist that violence is the only viable course of action for national safety and survival. The most recent case in point is North Korea and its daring unsuccessful firing of a number of ballistic firecrackers. The Pyongyang regime of Kim Jong-II has managed to get the neocons all flustered, and panicky. How dare the North Koreans fire off their Taepodong-2 missiles in an obvious act of a nation performing a sovereign act? Leave it to the modern day Romans to find danger in the actions of a sovereign nation exercising their sovereignty by firing off a number of worthless missiles. According to the neocons this blatant act of semi-aggression must not be tolerated, they currently are screaming for economic sanctions, which theoretically is an act of war. Never mind that after the cease-fire that ended the bloodletting in the Korean War, some 37,000 soldiers continue to be stationed there with no strategic vital interest. Why should American lives continue needlessly to be at risk in Korea? Let the Japanese, Chinese, and South Koreans deal with the crazies in the Hermit Kingdom, after all, it is in their backyard. The Korean War was a stupid war directed by a stupid President in America's first official police action without legitimate congressional approval. Foolishly called the Truman Doctrine, the Korean War was fought without actually trying to win the war, setting the stage for the Viet Nam. Neocons are good at fighting unwinnable wars because they enjoy turning chaos into gold; they prosper greatly in their unending conflicts, Iraq being the latest glaring example. What the North Korean show of impertinence has demonstrated is how much a failure the Bush administration is in international diplomacy. Saber rattling, and illegal invasions by the United States has had a counterproductive result in geo-strategic diplomacy. Nations have become weary at the constant bullying by the United States and are refusing to play the American game called the "war on terror." Any resolution that the Bush administration is able to formulate in the UN Security Council, will most likely be void of any punitive substance against North Korea because the United States has lost all moral credibility. That is why the "war on terror" and the Iraq War is a colossal bust; it is another failure in liberalism and not much more. Conservatives need to take a good look at themselves and decide if they want to continue to support the Republican Party which has been hijacked by a select few. The neocons do not believe in the Constitution, they believe in wide-ranging power and not much more, and their agenda is global. The Republican Party has become a criminal enterprise that needs to be cleansed of all neo-conservatism and replaced by genuine conservatives that believe in legitimate conservative principles. The conservative movement has always been an America First political movement that opposed foreign entanglements until the 1960s. Limited government, and minding one's own business in foreign affairs is the true virtue for conservatives. The neocons have always believed in senseless foreign adventures and social engineering on a global scale. The neoconservatives are fundamentally on the political left, presently working to establish a high surveillance police state with illegal wiretaps, and terrorist fear mongering while at the same time allowing an invasion by millions of illegal aliens from Mexico for cheap labor. This is unrestrained globalism, a criminal enterprise that is eliminating the middle class and diminishing the sovereignty of the United States which the global elites want. Americans need to stop listening to the delusional culprits who engage in establishing chaos throughout the world so that the select few can make fortunes out of the death and destruction that they create. When the neocons from both tightly controlled political parties warn America about the national vital interest in confronting North Korea, Iran, or whoever may be the next evil entity, Americans need to understand that the only vital interest to protect for the power elite is corporate globalism pushed by the globalists in Washington DC. The problem in Washington DC is not all the corruption, and criminality, the fundamental problem in the district of perversion and mendacity is that it is in the hands of globalists and foreign lobbyists. Americans protecting real American interests in Washington DC is a rare commodity these days. 10 giugno "...politics is power, nothing more...""Plato was the smartest man that ever lived. 31 maggio Scientology?Lost Keys (blame Hofmann) Rosetta Stoned TOOL 19 maggio (untitled)Hey folks. Thought i'd drop ya line to let you know I am still alive. K & I are expecting a little one on December 24, 2006 (my birthday)!!!!!
Unfortunately my career doesn't permit me much (none) blogging time!
The only blogging I do now is on the Tri-County Regional School Board's website. The tech department finally handed the site over to me a week ago. Much work is still needed!! But I have managed to make it functional & informative.
My Father had a heart atack 2 months ago. Thankfully he's fine! He's back in the hospital now though. To speed up the after care more so than anything.
K & I are movin into a house on June 1. Out in the country!
Nova Scotian's are in the midst of a provincial election. This is the first time that my vote could have a direct impact on my employment; seeing as how the school board is administered by the Province!
Oh... i am considering prosthetic surgery for an inherited, dabilitating, PAINFUL foot disorder (calcanus medatarsus varsus). More on that MUCH later!
Till next time(?). 01 maggio An Open Letter to my Member of ParliamentApril 25, 2006
Dear Mr. Thibault:
I have never voted Liberal, or Conservative for that matter, but I would seriously change my vote to Liberal, and i would convince a slew of others too as well, if you folks can get your ducks in line & get this redneck Bushite out of office. I am fearing for my country... all of Harper's recent announcements & actions are errily reminiscent of the Bush Administrations actions (Harper's announcement that no one in his caucus is to speak without his approval; his recent decision not to lower the flag to half mast for dead soldiersreturning home from Afghanistan, etc). Now it's only a matter of time before he stops letting the media show dead soldiers returning home!!! (since i wrote the letter, Prime Minister Harper has banned the media from the tarmacs of airports where dead soldiers are returning home). This is lunacy gone rampant. With the current state of geo-political affairs & the tensions that are on the brink of boiling over, we cannot afford to have this nut running our country (into the ground!!!). If you want to know what you as a party can do to win us back, you need to start talking loudly about Harper's Americanization of the Canadian political system that is being executed in the back rooms of Ottawa!!!! GET RID OF HIM!!!!!
Sincerely,
Joe Hazelton 30 aprile 556MAY 5 2006

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies You all need it too, don't lie Why can't we just admit it? Why can't we just admit it? We won't give pause until the blood is flowing Neither the brave nor bold write as the story's told We won't give pause until the blood is flowing I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance Vicariously I live while the whole world dies You all feel the same, so... The week was cruisin by up until today. Today time hit a big brick wall. This morning I finished what I had been working on & was left with nothing to do for the rest of the day. Ah well, next week everyone'll be back form their vacation (pricks!) and things will get retarded right from the get go.
On Tuesday I will be doing my first presentation to the Board. I will be presenting my ideas for a new website that I have built a template for. The one they have now is horrible. So I figured I would apply the knowledge I gained from my last job to upgrade their web presence a tad.
I have never actually built a website before. At my last job I was responsible for designing websites on paper & doing the research work that went into them, but I learned a hell of a lot about web site design in the process.
The IT guy hooked me up with Microsoft Front Page, the lowest of the low in web site design software, but since I am not a web designer & don't understand HTML or any other language it's all I can work with. The program is pretty idiot proof. I managed to put a rough template sight together in 2.5 days so I should be good to go.
Well I'm done rambling for now. I had to do something to kill the last 30 minutes of the day. What?!?! I only killed 10 minues writing this?! Ah well. I'll go find someone else in the office who's trying to do the same thing I am right now. Killing time always works better with an accomplice! Till next time.
Peace. 15 marzo Still Hangin in ThereWell I didn’t think I would have any meetings this week but yesterday I was informed I had to attend an Occupational Health & Safety / Operations meeting last night. It only went till 8:30pm, but a 12 hour day sucks the life right out of you… especially when you spend intermittent portions of it dealing with the media.
This week is relatively quiet though, since half of the office in on March Break! It’s giving me a good opportunity to dig into the website & read up on policies, procedures, by-laws, etc. Well I must get back to work; hopefully the Superintendent won’t spring any meetings on me today, or the rest of the week for that matter. Catch ya’ll later! 09 marzo PAY DAY!!!!So i got my laptop today
A nice new Toshiba 15" widescreen.
No MSN Messenger though :(
Network dude doesn't play dat!
Today was pretty mellow for a change with the exception of the guy that backed into the front my 1 week & 3 day old car on John Street!
just scuffed it but i was pissed!!!!
so i took it up to the GM dealership to get the Old Man to look at it cuz if i missed somethin, he'd see it! the bumper was poped out by the tail light but he popped er back in.
he took some rubbing compound to er and i was on my way!
today was a nice day to settle in at work...
next week everyone'll be on vaca... xcept for the new guy!
It'll be good RESEARCH week! no meetings!!!
well... i'll holla at ya'll later!
peace.
PS - if i don't hit a drum soon... i'm gonna lose it!
08 marzo I'm Still AliveI am sure you were all wondering why I haven't been around for the last little while. I assure I am still alive... but damn busy to boot. The new job is great... a little overwhelming & frustrating but it is to be expected given the situation I was thrown into. You see, the person I am replacing has been on sick leave since November so all the responsibilities of the job have been pushed off onto anyone in the office that was able to "fit" something else into their schedule. Now i have 8 different people taking the first opportunity they have to dump it all back on me!
So in true Joe Hazelton fashion, I am being baptized by fire! Oh... I bought my first car on the day I started (Monday Feb 27). 2006 Chevy Cobalt, 4 door, 5 speed, A/C, rear spoiler, silver... tis not too shabby
Well... I have to get ready for a meeting @ 7:30 so i gots to go. The tech guy here said I should be getting my new laptop tomorrow (he's been saying that since the day I started 22 febbraio MOVIN ON UP!As a lot of you who frequent my space know, my contract with my current employer expires on March 31 & I have been lookin for work. I had an interview with the local school board this past Saturday. Never before have I left a job interview thinking "I NAILED IT!" It was like the interview questions were taken from my job description at my current place of employment! Needless to say I had been waiting anxiously for a reply as to whether or not I got the job.
This morning I got a phone call from the Superintendent congratulating me on my new position with the school board as the Communications Officer! My responsibilities will include, but definately not be limited to:
This job isn't exactly the direction I was aiming for, I tend to prefer working behind the scenes, but my experience & training make me a perfect fit for this job... and it is a $12,000+/year pay raise to start! One drawback to leaving my current place of employment is that I will have to return my laptop... so I probably won't be doing much blogging until I get a new system!
This job will be a challenge indeed, but I have never let a challenge scare me! As of now the position is for an "indefinate term"; meaning it COULD be just another temporary position. But even if that is the case, I will have no problem finding something after. By being in the public eye I will become somewhat of a local celebrity... I could even par lé my new found status into a future political appointment... we shall see!
17 febbraio Gary Michael Nickerson, Sr. 1956-2006I know a few of you out there in Blogistan have been wondering where I have been the last few days. Tuesday morning i woke up to my girlfriend standing over me with the phone in her hand.
"It's your Mom." she said. I knew it had to be bad.
"Joe, Uncle Gary died this morning. He had a heart attack!"
I was speechless. As a matter of fact i am getting choked up writing this right now. For the rest of the day Tuesday I was doing alright. It wasn't until the viewing on Wednesday night when it hit me. But even the shock of seeing him lying there wasn't as bad as the feeling I got at the funeral on Thursday. There's something about seeing a room full of big, tough shark fisherman and construction workers crying like babies that gives you a real sick feeling in your stomach.
Add to that the fact that I have only seen my Dad cry once when he buried his last living sister. But he seemed to take Gary's death a little harder. I guess with his sister it was expected... this was completely unexpected!
Gary was an avid fisherman & outdoorsman. He was very active & lived life to the fullest. He didn't let previous heart attacks slow him down either. Perhaps that was the reason that this one did him in.
RIP Uncle Gary - "Remember, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion."
"Parabol/Parabola" - TOOL So familiar and overwhelmingly warm
This one, this form I hold now Embracing you, this reality here This one, this form I hold now, so Wide eyed and hopeful Wide eyed and hopefully wild We barely remember what came before this precious moment We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment This holy reality, this holy experience Alive, I In this holy reality, in this holy experience Twirling round with this familiar parable This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality 11 febbraio Finally... A Premier That Doesn't Have White Hair!I must say that out of the three leadership contenders, I am happy to see that the only one with no snow on his roof won! Back in December I had the chance to formally meet & talk with two of the three leadership contenders. The first one i met was Bill Black & I must say i was rather turned off. This guy has about as much carisma as a bowling ball, and after i met him i learned he is a former Insurance Executive. Nova Scotians pay more for insurance than any other province; the last thing we need is a Premier that will bow to the Insurance lobby! On another occasion i saw Mr. Black interviewed after a debate here in Yarmouth, where he was asked about his stance on Private Health Clinics in Nova Scotia. To which he responded "NEXT QUESTION PLEASE!" However the reporter was not satisified with this response & repeated the question 9 times! Each time Mr. Black gave the same response! Sorry Mr. Black, but in public life, "next question please" doesn't cut it!
When I had the chance to meet Mr. MacDonald, I must say i was rather impressed. I am skeptical of all politicians no matter what their stripe is. But Mr. MacDonald had something about him that led me to believe that he entered politics for the right reasons. What impressed me most was when a local business man asked him what his stance on Sunday shopping was. Mr. MacDonald replied, "we put this question to the residents of Nova Scotia in the last Municipal elections in the form of a plebicite, and Nova Scotia said no to Sunday shopping!" The local businessman was visibly unimpressed with this answer so he persisted several times & each time Mr. MacDonald stood his ground. During one point in the discussion the room gave him a standing ovation on the topic, needless to say the local businessman was really perturbed at that point.
In conclusion, I hope that Premier MacDonald takes Nova Scotia in a good direction... but of course I will be voting NDP in the next Provincial election! 09 febbraio Conservative MPs: "We campaigned against this sort of thing!"Just one day after Canada's 22nd Prime Minister, Stephen Joseph Harper, was sworn in, he started catching flack on his cabinet appointments. Only this flack isn't comming from the opposition parties, it's comming from his own Conservative Caucus Members of Parliament! After campaigning on an agenda of accountability & a promise to clean up government, Harper turned around and made some unpresidented moves that make the Liberals look like bastions of Democracy.
For starters, Harper appointed Michael Fortier to be Minister of Public Works. The only problem with this is that Mr. Fortier did not run, let alone get elected, in the recent election! Instead, Harper appointed him to the Senate! It is true that Canada has an appointed Senate, but Harper ran on a platform that was critical of this practise of appointing Senators and promised to deliver Canadians an elected Senate in future elections! However the point is, Mr. Fortier is not a sitting MP and therefore should not hold a Cabinet position!
Second, after campaigning on a platform that would require MPs to run in a by-election if they chose to cross the floor & join another party, Harper appointed David Emerson to be Minister of International Trade. The problem here is that Mr. Emerson was elected as a Liberal in the recent election & is the outgoing Minister of Industry under Paul Martin's government!
The other incident that is catching little media attention is the fact that Harper held his initial Cabinet meeting in a secret location free from media scrutiny! This is unpresidented in Canadian history. Although Cabinet meetings are held behind closed doors in the House of Commons, there is always a chance for the media to ask questions in the hallways after the meetings. By holding the meeting in secret, Harper has cut media scrutiny out of his government!
I honestly thought Harper's minority status would keep him grounded. Apparently I was wrong! As were the Canadians that actually voted Conservative. Once again Canadian's were duped, and in true Conservative fashion they are rubbing it right in our faces.
